That is right MMT members.

The directory is running. Go check it out.
http://directory.mymodeltalk.com/

Our search funtion is near perfect. It should be perfected shortly.

Catagories:
- Agencies
- Casting Directors
- Actors
- Models
- Comedians
- Photographers
- Creative Design
- Make-up Artists
- Management companies
- Stylists
- Modeling Schools

For agencies we already have Texas and California "licensed" companies listed in the directory and should have New York and Florida will be uploaded shortly. And the remaining states that are also regulated will folllow.

Each month we will update this listing for each regulated state as well.
This will give you guys a quick resource to check out agencies and to see if that agency is legally licensed and bonded. As well as providing contact info for agencies in your area so you may inquire with them on your own accord.

The models, actors, and photographers, etc. sections will automatically fill up with members when the profiles become active, which will be happening very soon, also.

Take a look and let us know what you think.
We're open to opinions and feedback.

I really don't know who models go to for training but for actors in ATL there are a number of acting studios with good reputations within the industry --places that agents send talent for continued training. I'd rather refer people to places like that for classes that will actually benefit their resumes.

I can't agree on that more. We ask our talent NOT to list any "modeling schools" or "conventions" on their resumes when seeking professional assignments. Actors should be training with recognized acting coaches who are in the industry.

Guys give me suggestions and I'll do my best to accurately code a solution. However please understand that some states that regulate talent agencies don't have their talent database information public. I've talked to a few that have expressed interest in making them public but that is slow to happen.

Checking for a business license might provide a little security in the non-regulated states. The problem is that when we are talking about business licenses we are talking about governments on the city or county level.

They usually even less organized or technically advanced. So checking everyone against some type of database (business licenses) may be impossible.

In most instances I’d say that the members should always check on their own.

I just want to set realistic expectations here.

As far as the schools are concerned, is it fair not to list them and only to list schools we like? We can take steps to ban/disable entries of schools and individuals that do something blatantly wrong. But they are a part of the industry whether I personally like them or not. We could use a rating system as I suggested before. Thoughts?

Let’s talk more about solutions when we are talking about concerns.

I'm not aware of any legitimate modeling agencies that advocate modeling schools, except those that have schools attached to them and who may wish to sell tuitions. Many agencies will not even accept someone if they've been "model schooled" because they have to then invest additional time in breaking them of the things they had 'learned.' Many schools focus on teaching runway techniques to models too short to ever really walk one. Acting, on the other hand, is a skill that must constantly be honed and refined and even the biggest actors in Hollywood attend workshops and work with private coaches ongoing. JMHO.

An agency license in a regulated state and a standard business license are worlds apart. Anyone can basically acquire a business license and it doesn't help regulate their activity or provide insurances to models. To note, when I first moved to a suburb just outside of Austin, Texas, and attempted to obtain a business license... the city told me that I did not require one. I only needed a DBA in order to obtain a business bank account. I was actually taken by surprise (note, this was not for a model or talent/agency related business) that one was not required and felt that having one would increase my credibility... strangely enough, the courthouse informed me that it was not required (so this could vary state by state as well).

Finally, by the way, so as not to shadow this great work you've done: FANTASTIC DATABASE! Your efforts in creating this and in working to make it beneficial to all should be applauded. Thank you.
