Paid models

Why should anyone pay models?
All they do is take pictures! Anybody can take a picture, and look cute. Why should a person pay a model to do this? What is so special about a model?

Okay I model and yes there are some works I take for free, for instance some photographers, who are building cliente will offer to do a TFP, which is time for print. The model takes the pictures and the photographer gives them samples on a cd for their personal use. The photographer, then takes the model pictures and put them on their website or in their portfolio. Basically the two are helping one another out. Sometimes the photographer provides a stylist and make-up artist, some of them dont. So the model of course has to come out of his/her pocket and pay for the make-up artist, hair stylist, clothes and not to mention gas for going to the shoot. :x

No, not anyone can take a picture and look cute. Because to be honest there are some models out here in the industry who look like I dont know what, but when a make-up artist and stylist and of course the right photography editing skills, the model can look like a million bucks!

Now imagine if you were a model, right. You have to buy clothes, accessories, make-up, make sure your hair is right, shoes, etc. Thats money right there alone. You dont want to keep taking pictures over and over in the same outfit.

Next, you are driving to several castings. For ex: I had a photoshoot in Charlotte, NC to be on a Latina Calendar. One I took a risk driving out there, I WAS NOT compensated for gas ($40.00 out of my own pocket its a 2 hr drive going and coming), not paid for the photoshoot (reason because it was a competition to be in a calendar), and bought several swimsuits (if your lucky, you can catch a sale a top runs $48 and up and not to mention you have to also buy the bikini bottom, $48 and up too) ops:

What is so special about a model, is because he/she is there to sell your business. Some models take money out of their own pockets to get where they are at today. Many models overseas travel just to get work and they are very lucky if they are compensated. Who wants to work for free? :?:

What if you model and all you did was take money out your own pocket paying for everything? Lets say for ex: Sean Puffy Combs or Donatella Versace offered you modeling work. Lets say you walk in their modeling runaway shows, your flying here and there (because dont forget fashion shows are international), your paying to wear their clothes, buying your own meals. They tell you hey we can't pay you, take it out of your own pocket. Would you do that for free? I sure wouldn't. Modeling is a job and it takes lots of work.

Default Gotta be kidding...

Blasian got it right. Model's are sales people. Whenever you hire a model to pose with or bring life to a product (clothes, fragrances, etc...), your asking them to help you sell it. It only makes sense to pay them.

No company can survive without advertising. Modeling is unique becuase models show the public how they can relate to the product. Plus, the company makes money long after the product is sold. So why not pay the people who help you sell? Even if we weren't talking ethics it just makes sense...
