About Atlanta
Atlanta is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. right now. It's been coined Hotlanta, probably due not only to its humid weather but also it's happening nightlife. It has a prominent music scene, and several big name artists have emerged from this hip city, including The Black Crowes, Indigo Girls, and Collective Soul. Let's hope that this means we will see some great talent there for the Season Seven American Idol auditions!

Transportation
The MARTA rail system has a station within the airport terminal, and provides direct service to downtown Atlanta, midtown, Buckhead, and Sandy Springs. MARTA operates both the rail and bus system, but most people in Atlanta drive. Georgia has one of the lowest excise taxes on gasoline in the U.S.! The downside? Definitely the traffic! Three major highways converge in Atlanta; I-20 runs east to west across town, while I-75 runs from northwest to southeast, and I-85 runs from northeast to southwest. The latter two merge to form the Downtown Connector through the center of the city.
The Georgia Dome, the audition venue in Atlanta, is located to the immediate west of the downtown Atlanta area on the corner of Northside Drive and Georgia Dome Drive. It is accessible by the MARTA rail system via Vine City and Georgia Dome stations. Parking is at a premium on event days, so taking MARTA is recommended.
Recommended Accommodations
As the auditions will be held in The Georgia Dome, staying in or around the downtown area is probably recommended. The bonus is that you will be near many of the wonderful Atlanta attractions, including museums and the Georgia Aquarium. But don't think you can't get a bit of fresh air if you're staying in the city. Many hiking trails, rock climbing, camping, trout fishing and great paddling are all within a short drive of the city. Many of these are within Atlanta's "perimeter" (the boundary created by Interstate 285, which encircles the city).
