Casting / Audition Details: The scene is kitchen of the Magrath house in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital and to support youngest sister, Babe, who has attempted to murder her abusive husband. Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach. Their antics are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail. In the end the play is the touching, funny story of how its characters escape the past to seize the future.
Character Breakdown: Lenny Magrath- any age; Only age consideration is she is three years older than Meg and six years older than Babe. She has devoted herself to caring for their sick grandfather and has almost let life pass her by.
Meg Magrath - any age; Only age consideration is she is three years younger than Lenny and three years older than Babe. She left five years ago to pursue a singing career in California. A bit on the wild side, Meg gives the family reputation a black eye.
Babe Botrelle - any age; Only age consideration is she is the youngest - three years younger than Meg and six years younger than Lenny. Faces charges of attempted murder for shooting her husband, Babe is the most innocent, and yet the most disturbed, of the three women.
Chick Boyle- any age; A cousin to the three sisters; She lives right next door to Lenny, and often drops by with gossip, advice and criticism whether it's asked for or not.
Doc Porter - any age; Meg's old boyfriend; He has returned with a wife and two kids and has to face unfinished business with his old high school sweetheart.
Barnette Lloyd - any age; Babe's lawyer; A young lawyer hired to defend Babe on attempted murder charges. He has very strong reasons, some of them personal, for taking on her case.

Directions: Take I-75 to exit 288 (Cartersville/Main St.)
Go west on Main St. for 2 miles; you will enter downtown Cartersville.
As you pass over a railroad track, the next light is at the corner of Main St. and Erwin St.
Continue on Main, past Erwin, and make the next left in the drive between the Legion building and the Cartersville/Bartow Chamber of Commerce.
