Casting / Audition Details: We are having a call for Extras for a short film shoot to serve as a preview for the play's opening in August at a prominent Atlanta Film Festival. We are in need of all different types of people who can pass for HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. Please contact Charles at (404)644-7702 as soon as possible if you're interested. The shoot for extras will be SATURDAY MORNING, MAY 11TH FROM 9:30 - 11:30 AM. Those who do well and can easily follow directions will be asked to join the production for the premiere performance in August.
Another Lesson Learned" is a hip-hop musical dealing with the trials and tribulations of growing up in the fast-paced world of high school. Marcus Reed has just been accepted to the college of his choice when he and his family are forced to deal with life-changing news.
Character Breakdown: Seeking dramatic and comedic actors of all ages, races and cultural backgrounds. Also seeking dancers and dance groups as well as singers and rappers. MARCUS REED
- college-bound senior at Langson Hughes High School. Marcus is the man-about-town who's well
respected and a student leader with a natural flare of getting his own way. His soulful eyes and
warm smile can't help but show how comfortable he is with himself and the direction he's taken.
Marcus isn't conceited or cocky - just completely "convinced".
MR. REED
- Marcus' stern, quick-witted father who's full of old school flava. He'd describe himself as a good
husband and active father who's life's mission is to raise his family and love his wife and making
sure his aging mother doesn't violate her probation.
MRS. REED
- Marcus' exuberantly colorful mother. She's loved by all, except her mother-in-law. Mrs. Reed
is the quintessential mother raising her family. She's highly emotional and passionate about
life and surviving getting another child off to college.
SYDNEY HUNTER
- Marcus' equally accomplished girlfriend and first love. She's perky, pleasant and full of kind
words and thoughts, making her that much more physically attractive. If the perfect girl existed,
she'd be it.
GRANDMA REED
- Marcus' off-the-chain grandmother. She's a 'Cancun-Springbreaker' trapped in a eighty-year-old
body. She can be found knitting Saturday morning, being escorting out of a male revue for being
unruly and shouting in the front pew in church the next morning. Two words - TOO MUCH!
VERONICA REED
- Marcus' older sister now attending Clark Atlanta University. She's a free, modern thinker who
wants to be appreciated for her mind and not her extremely beautiful appearance.
RUBEN JENKINS
Marcus' best friend. He stays crunked-up and doesn't mind showing it. He could make a funeral
fun, but couldn't pay attention to save his life. The Ritalin never helped and now it's too late.
CAPRI JAMESON
-Sydney's overly sophisticated best friend. Her graduation plans include being America's Next
Top Model or being the baby's mama of a famous rapper. She victimizes the world with her
sharp tongue and judgemental eye for fashion.
ALONZO REED
- Marcus' wanna be playa cousin with movie star good looks and a gangsta rapper's respect for
women. He's the perfect mix of Denzel Washington and the Big Bad Wolf.
DANTE REED
- Marcus' little brother who's convinced he's a stand-up comic. He spends his time honing
his comedic craft and worshipping his big brother.
NOEL
- Veronica's effeminate friend and permanent guest of the Reed household. He's always up
for a free meal and is Veronica's one-"man" entourage.
QUINTIESHA
-Sydney's ghetto fabulous friend. Her hair, nails and lipstick are always the same bright color
and can be seen on satellites in outer space. Lil' Kim couldn't touch this maverick of ATL stle
and living proof 'It's great'a in Decata'".
PAM
-older woman who gladly relieves Marcus of his virginity.
RENEE'
-Pam's alcoholic friend and Alonzo's flava of the week.
MRS. PATTERSON
-stern school administrator at Marcus' high school
DR. WONG
-The Reed family's physician with a holistic approach to health.
MARION HUNTER
-Sydney's self-involved mother. She's embarking on her new lease on life as she keeps a steady stream of suiters, advances her career, furthers her education and keeps up with the 'Joneses' and in her spare time - raises her teenage daughter.
Times, dates & locations: Auditions will be scheduled for Wednesday, April 18th from 6 - 10pm and call backs will be Saturday, April 21st - if necessary. Audition will consist of Cold Readings from script and improv for children.
