Synopsis:
Lulu, a Chinese girl of 16, is an exchange student living in the mountains of North Carolina, and her host family takes her on their annual bear hunting trip aimed to enrich her "American experience." When the chase heats up on a bear trail, she gets lost. When a fellow young hunter, a 16-year-old boy named Gavin finds her and tries to lead her out of the woods, romance ensues by a bonfire as night animals populate the darkness. The extreme beauty of the mountains in autumn and the violence of the bear hunt awaken in her something much larger. The freedom and the danger of guns are inseparable to her American experience, something she never could have experienced in China.
