One Line Synopsis:
After a couple's firstborn infant is smothered to death by their cat, their lives become consumed with the complicated decision of what to do with the animal that killed their child.
Description of The Project:
Sabina is Alexander Atkins' Senior Thesis for The Conservatory of Film at Purchase College. It is a quiet drama which centers around a couple who, in the wake of tragedy, are forced to grapple with a smaller, more immediate dilemma. In the forty-eight hours after the bizarre death of their newborn child, Tom and Sylvia's grieving is augmented and distorted by the impossible but inevitable moral decision of deciding the fate of their cat. Set to be shot on Super-16 and transfered to high definition video, composition and aesthetic are of principle emphasis. Very much a "mood piece," rather than engaging in an in-depth debate, the film will simply document the couple's distracted embodiment of misfortune.
About the Director:
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Alexander Atkins was accepted into Purchase College's prestigious Conservatory of Film in 2006. The past three years have been a time of enormous personal and artistic growth. A Dean's List student, Atkins is the recipient of a two-year national scholarship from The Charles and Lucille King Foundation, and his Junior Thesis Film, Unearthed, has received enormous praise from his colleagues and faculty. Determined, ambitious, and creative, Alexander approaches every endeavor with passion, persistence and pride. His two major goals for the production are to collaborate extensively with the actors and to deeply explore the film's location and the ways in which it can best be photographed.
