"THE KING IN EXILE" is the world premiere workshop production of a play by JULIAN J. MESRI in the INAUGURAL PERFORMANCE of the new series "OUT OF THE BOX" @ THE TANK (
www.thetanknyc.org), curated by RAPHAEL GALLEGOS.
The story revolves around a banished, depressed ex-King who, in a desperate attempt at finding relevancy, tries to become God. THE KING IN EXILE is a ripping farce and while it explores the themes of language, meaning, and belief, it will have you laughing the whole way through.
The KING (male: mid-20's- late 40's) - We are looking for someone with a powerful voice and a royal demeanor. He is a man who once had a Kingdom and still expects his word to be law. Old habits die hard as he struggles with the conventions of non-royal living. Should be able to take chances and risks not usually associated with naturalistic theater, includes unconventional and fast language sequences. A desire to experiment and explore is above-all, most important.
The King's shares the stage with:
his bored, horny and barely literate Queen who wants only to make love and write her novel;
the Ambassador from the old Kingdom bent on embarrassing his ex-King;
and a Subject who can't help but be his loyal companion.
PERFORMANCE DATES: January 28th & 30th
REHEARSAL DATES: Mid-November through January/ 2-3 Days (max. 10 hours) per week
