Gypsy, chances are that moving from Detroit is totally out of the question, but I think what Mykkal says is true. I think it's impossible to profit as an actor or model anywhere you don't have an opportunity to audition for something at least once a week...and even if you do land a fun project, chances are the career exposure won't be too great.
As for paying for your own travel expenses, personally, I'd never do it. Obviously you must love your daughter a lot to pay so much for her to follow her dreams...
How about this for a suggestion... Try mailing out a bunch of headshots and resumes to any reputable jobs or agencies you can find in the nearest major entertainment market, set up a week's worth of meetings with as many people as you can, invest in a short trip there, then see if anything comes of it. It's a huge investment, but not nearly as much as moving. This way maybe you can test the waters before making any rash decisions. |
