This is totally inaccurate. Agencies may be EXCLUSIVE or NON-EXCLUSIVE. In either situation, you are not signing your life away unless you are signing up with a "SCAM." Agents are bound by laws in most states to be bonded and licensed and only then may procure work for the people that they represent. They also are restricted from requiring their services, such as selling comp cards and photo shoots and such. Management is a function that does NOT procure you work directly, but which works with a licensed agency to get you work (through the licensed agent). The minute that a manager starts to procure work directly for a talent, they become an agent and if in a state that regulates this, if they do not have an agency license then they are violating the law and can be prosecuted. The two definitions you have provided are generic terms and have NOTHING to do with the talent industry. Absolutely nothing at all. I would suggest education on the workings of the actual talent industry.

Agency:
Fiduciary relationship between two parties in which one (the 'agent') is under the control of (is obligated to) the other (the 'principal') . The agent is authorized by the principal to perform certain acts, for and on behalf of the principal. The principal is bound by the acts of the agent, performed in carrying out entrusted duties and within the scope of agent's authority. An agency can be created by (1) express agreement, whether oral or written, (2) implication, based on the custom or practice of the trade, or (3) conduct of the principal. Under the legal doctrine of estoppel, the principal is prohibited from denying the existence of a properly constituted agency. Creation of agency is essential to commercial and financial transactions, because an organization (as a legal entity) can function only through its agents.
(you sign and you are theirs, no options)
Management:
According to the management guru Peter Drucker (1909-2005), the basic task of a management is twofold: marketing and innovation. Practice of modern management owes its origin to the 16th century enquiry into low-efficiency and failures of certain enterprises, conducted by the English statesman Sir Thomas More (1478-1535).
(and you dont sign your life away)
