Default How Do I Safely Get My Child a Good Agent or Manager in the Acting Industry?

My son looks very much like the little boy in the movie "Big Daddy". He is a very colorful child and is always putting on a show for the family and our guests. I have been modeling for a while and never considered putting my child in it until a friend suggested he do commercials or modeling. Does anyone know how to go about this safely? I don't want some psycho trying to lure me and my son into something dangerous. It's easier as an adult to screen out the weirdos (but never completely!) so how can I get my son out there without putting him in danger? Any help would be great!!!

Thanks!!

First of all, start him out in the professional industry. You're in California, so seek out agency representation. Chula Vista (I got that off your MySpace) would make San Diego your most viable starting place for representation. Next too, check some of the agencies out up the coast and as far as up to L.A. Just make sure they are a real agency and not someone pretending. In California, agents must be licensed and bonded with the State. Use this link to verify licensing: http://www.dir.ca.gov/databases/dlselr/talag.html

You don't need a manager. As his parent, YOU are his manager. Obtain a good commercial agent. For modeling, remember that clients hire talent, not photographers. Online, the weekend warriors with their cameras pay models to pose. In the non Internet world, photographers are paid to shoot models by the clients and aren't hiring models from their own pockets.

Forget about all those "get famous quick" schemes... the websites and conventions. A good agent is all you need to feel secure about involving your kids in the industry. More kids are hurt by things like MySpace http://www.myspace-danger.org/ than they are by working in the legitimate industry through a licensed/bonded agent.

haha.
Before I go any further about GoSeeGifts...
http://www.google.com/search?q=gosee...en-US:official

And this is a thread from our own website where we've discussed Go See Gifts before...
http://www.jobs.mymodeltalk.com/about2616-0-asc-0.html

I'm not sure if you're fully aware of them and their practices...
Or if you're just fishing an ad at us.

But, Go see Gifts is simply another online casting place that charges a membership. And they lure you in with big castings (that only agency represented talent can actually get submissions to) and all of a sudden (soon as you sign-up) that casting has been filled.

I advise against Go See Gifts uless you have $20 a month to blow.

Hey, anyone giving away $20/mth just send me a check for $10 if that the case. I'll save you 50% and go treat myself lunch on your behalf. lol.
