Hi Everybody,

I signed up with an online agency. So far, they have proven to be very good. However, what I want to know is if I answer an audition, say on Craigslist, and then the agency sends over photos and resumes to the casting, I should not have to pay the agency right? I responded to an ad on craigslist and was invited to audition as a result. However, unbeknownst to me, my agency sent a bunch of resumes and photos to this same casting. When I went for an audition yesterday I was informed by the casting director that they received a personal e-mail from me from craigslist. I am thinking that the agency has no right to get a percentage of anything if I answered the ad first, right? Help? Thanx.

Default Hey!!!

Hey girl! So far I've heard, from two agencies, that whatever you find on your own is just that... Your own! Finder’s keepers! So elementary, but so true. That is definitely the way I would handle it. It's just being fair. Hope that helps.

God Bless,

~Lisa Lee~

P.S. Always read the fine print on anything you sign up for because some other "agencies" may not work the same way.

Default agencies

If the angency does anyting to assist you in getting an audition then they get paid. Even if its just sending a photo over. It still takes time and so they still get paid. If you want to find jobs on your own then you need to do all of it not just part of it.

Exactly.

if you involve the agency in anyway they get a commission.
Theyt may choose to not take a commission if the agent who sends it decidesso.

But from your perspective, expect to pay.

So, if you want to keep your commissions...email your photos yourself.
Also, make sure you are NOT exclusive with them.

Or better yet, cancel your contract with the agency, if you can.

Plus, if you hav an agency submitting you to castings (even the castings you find) you need to let them hanlde it. Situations like the one you just experienced make makes you AND your agency look out of sync. And it can make you look unprofessional, if not the agency as well.

That is why agencies "land-based especially" like to get exclusive contracts for their market. To avoid mishaps like this which causes them to ooose clients.

Now the "online agency" thing might be another issue all it's own. But for now...that is an irrelevant discussion.

While it true that there is a "common place" for ALL agencies....how each individual agency works is just as diverse and as the models they represent and the clients the submit them to.

Talk to 5 different models from 5 different agencies in 5 different markets (or even the same market/city) and you'll get up to 5 different answers about their respective agents/agencies.
