#1 | | HBO casting for The Sopranos, Take 2 11-30-2006, 07:01 PM
Rating: () Better be on the look out for this. This was actually posted on Craigslist by a person that ran into issues with Talent hunter, which originally posted the "Sopranos" casting. - Mykkal

My previous post regarding this possible scam got flagged and removed, so I'm back with a little more info. First of all, I notice that the original post also got removed, but you can still view it on the Houston talent gig board. The link in the post takes you to Talent Hunter http://talenthunter.com/, a casting website. It doesn't seem to be a casting agency per se, but rather a networking site where you can post a picture, resume, etc. They also have some casting info with breakdowns for shows like "Big Love" and "Law & Order." What they don't have readily available is info on how to submit for those jobs.
Wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, I looked through the Testimonials, most of which were self-promoting posts. I did find one positive testimonial (although it said nothing about actually getting any auditions through the site, let alone paying work). I also found the following:

I am a well-connected actor in the Philadelphia area, particularly in the film/TV industry. I recently saw your posting on a local audition website. When I tried to check out the audition, I had to first sign up for a free membership. I then discovered that in order to find that particular audition (for HBO's Sopranos, incidentally) I would have to pay a fee. I don't appreciate the misleading way you conduct business, and I intend to spread the word to everyone I know in the industry here in Philly about it (which, you should know, is a lot). I was an advertising major in college and know the severe affect that negative word of mouth can have on business, and trust me--I'll be doing as much damage as I can. Good luck duping actors in Philly after today. Thanx!! :-)
So Colorado actors, beware. There are plenty of folks out there who will only be too happy to separate you from your money. I think it's telling that I didn't see this "Sopranos" post on the LA or NY boards, since so many people in those cities know how the game is run. Trust me -- primetime shows on any commercial or cable network are union gigs, meaning that you have to already belong to SAG &/or AFTRA and have an agent (or be incredibly well-connected) to even be considered. If you do not have an agent and you are not union, you are throwing away headshots and postage by sending in submissions. If you want jobs on TV shows like that, you are going to have to move to where the work is first.
