scams I do not know about this particular company, but here is a few general guidelines; Here is a little bit of inside information.
Never ever pay any money upfront or purchase anything as a prerequisite to an audition. (Sometimes you will be asked to pay something like 5.00 or 10.00 to help cover their expenses, or you may have to pay for the class-which sometimes this is a way to sale a master class from a dance instructor or choreographer-or an acting or singing- who is low on work, and disguise it as an audition give the class, never intending on hiring anyone).
Be careful of forms that ask way to much information, esp before they offer you employment. I have found this is traditional job applications, they do not need to know emergency contacts-they will always dial 911 in an emergency, they do not need character references, to know where you went to high school, names of your nearest relatives. In my situation, including an university's dance department, this information has all been used for non-intended purposes by official people.
Give as little information as possible. I do suggest a stage name, until you are offered employment.
There is a SAG website that offers great advice, protecting your likeness and identity. You do not have to be SAG to read it. Also, Backstage is another great site/publication. There was this government person whom befriended me. She told me when she was a peace officer, if she was interested in a man, she would follow him tell his employers, or any business he was a customer at that he was on probation and she was verifying certain information. The person she was stalking was never on probation for anything. IT IS ALMOST NEVER CAUGHT-AS THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ASKED THIS WILL NEVER TELL YOU ANYTHING. They just automatically believe this official person.
People in this business, entertainers, even casting directors are easily sold and go along with almost anything they hear about an entertainer. |
