I've been a member of Model Mayhem for a short while, and it's not all porn or nude stuff. There is a lot of hubris to avoid, but with work it is possible to build a network and develop some leads to jobs or other helpful connexions. I had one small job from there as a model for a workshop. I've met one other model from my agency and another quite good commercial model there as well as several talented photographers who can help me expand my port and provide me practise during slow times.

I, of course, don't know for sure as the site MM does not allow agencies to register on or use it. Something about how "agents are ruining the real model industry." Um... okay... we should probably be busy booking jobs for clients anyways. I just have this horrible "net affliction," LOL..!

In all fairness to MM, however, I'm certain the "no agents" rule sprang from the experience of people who play agent vs. actual industry business. That being the case, perhaps it's hard to blame them.

I think what they need is a way to verify what agencies are liscensed and what agencies are not.

Actually I may try to code a way to do it. Depends on if those databases kept by the state are public or not.

There was another model portfolio site at one time that actually did that. They made me Fax them a copy of our license. At first I almost didn't bother, and then I thought about it and realized they were doing the right thing, so I did. I can't recall now what site it was, however, there are just so many of them out there these days!

The only problem I would see in using the state databases is that those states that don't regulate agencies won't have licenses issued. It's sort of a Catch 22... because in states that don't require a license, any Tom, Dick, or Harry can call themselves an agent and be as crooked as crook can be... but at the same time, perfectly caring and legitimate people and companies can be agents too, and there seems no way to really sort them out. It's a shame that it is not a national requirement - BUT... the good thing is that most states that are major markets of any kind do regulate it. Still, it would be difficult at best and unfair at worst to exclude someone who isn't required to license, but who is actually a top notch business.

Well how about I designate which staes require a liscence and which states do not?

They'll be able to verify the sates in the states that do providing I can get that state to make available to me the databases.
