They're full of it.

I've heard of casting comapnies in the LA area trying to charge you to register at auditions (even "legit" casting comapnies)
But, no confirmation on the "legit" part. It's a claim to be lowerng costs of rental of a place to audition or other misc reasons to charge a fee.

In reality it is a mirror of certain agencies that charge you to register for an agency audition and then turn around and say; "Sorry, but you're not what we're looking for." Or...you just never hear from them again.

For all sincere reasons, you NEVER pay to audition for any job. Paid registrations are the most common warning signs.

Side note to consider. (ALWAYS WATCH THE SIGNS!!!)
If they already have a budget to pay models $1000 EACH for the runway show. They don't need to charge models to audition.
The money from an audition would be chump cahnge in comparison. So why add the headache of processing it all and an additional 'taxable" invoice to your books?

I'd advise to give them a pass based on this casting call.

I haven't researched the company yet, or asked anyone about it.
I'll see if I can find out if they are licensed in California. Or if they are even set up as an operating business yet.

Well, the company is not licensed in the talent database. And, I haven’t found an operating license as of yet.
Talent License Database - http://www.dir.ca.gov/databases/dlselr/Talag.html
But I found this info for the same address (but different suite 3’s)
Registration to Practice – http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/dco...rac10jun05.htm
Hinkes, Eric Matthew, 2118 Wilshire Boulevard, #276, Santa Monica, CA 90403-5784

Celebrity Homes –
http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/andrews...addresses.html
Brendan Fraser 2118 Wilshire Blvd. #513 Santa Monica, CA 90403

Southern California ACS Employers/ members
HARTLEY & HARTLEY 2118 WILSHIRE BLVD STE 352, SANTA MONICA CA 90403

And other non-related stuff. It seems as though there are a lot of business on Wilshire in Santa Monica and Wilshire in LA. But, Lifestyle isn’t one of them….
The only thing I found on that exact address (with the suite # 1028) was the craigslist ad they’ve been posting.

Also, I put a search in for the email address and the ONLY thing that comes up is the SAME craigslist ad. Nothing else.

And, I went to www.lifestyleent.net and it brings up nothing but a generic directory. And I go to www.lifestyleent.com and that brings up a forbidden site (meaning a site that has been either shut down or locked.)

So...there you have it. I reaffirm my previous position. Don’t deal with them.

Default A Must Read. Why you shouldn't pay to audition.

I'm agreeing with Angelus....

A good rule of thumb is to use normal "common sense" and please understand my usage of this word is not meant to be derogatory. Of all the careers and professions I’ve ever come across "entertainment" affiliated careers are the only ones I’ve never seen anyone receive formal education on high school, middle school, or college years.

Because of this people don't realize that the same rules apply to being successful in this industry as in others. People tend to take advantage of that 'ignorance' and 'sell' people on things they wouldn't do under most circumstances.

Think of auditioning as an interview. Can anyone tell me that they paid someone to interview for a job? I myself have never done this. I can understand having to pay for transportation to get to a casting (interview). After all it is the talents responsibility to get there. But paying to be interviewed?

Now there is nothing wrong with investing in yourself and I do recommend spending money to increase your portfolio and skill. But you should evaluate yourself and decide what areas you need improvement on and adjust accordingly. Also decide what areas you are strong in and promote that as your niche. At some point in your career you will require investing in yourself whether its promotional, education, or just organizing yourself. This goes for any industry (not just acting or modeling).

Now the only things I've seen that normally people pay to participate in are beauty pageants. I am not very fond of pageants but I have no reason to be against them. With a pageant you are paying to participate and you are not auditioning or interviewing. In my opinion however pageants represent a skewed view of what ‘beauty’ is and can do more damage to talent then anything. I believe there is a need for every kind of look and I’m particularly fond of models and talent that find a way to deliver a need that others do not. One phenomenal agency in England is actually provides 'ugly' models. They took a derogatory word and carved out a niche that there is a huge need for. That's smart business and a smart niche. They are regularly booked for movies, background work, and ever featured work in videos, photos, and films.
http://www.ugly.org/um/specials.html (this is a link to the site).

So in my view everyone can succeed if they know their strengths, weakness, and limits.

Seriously though and before I ramble off topic too much. If you would not pay to interview then don't pay to audition. They are in fact the same thing. However do invest in yourself wherever necessary.

Many L.A. specifically casting companies have a fee to register with them. It's perfectly legal and accepted practice. Central Casting, for one, as well as almost every extra casting company in the industry. I don't think it's the registration fee that's so much the red flag here as it is the fees they say are being paid (including transportation?! COME ON!). They are in L.A., why in the world would they need to solicite for talent all over and outside the city? I grew up in Hollywood - there is no shortage of talent there that is local.

Craig's List... should be the first indicator.
