Week One In The Industry
Posted On 06/30/2009 23:02:03

So how far will a pretty face really get you?

So far, I've gotten several call backs from casting agencys. Now it is time to weed out the shady BS. All I am looking for is extra work to get a feel for the industy. So here's my experience in Hollywood last week.

Company 1- A to Z casting, NoHo. Found them on Craigslist. Seemed a little shady. I think they smelled "fresh meat". They kept trying to sell me on who they have worked with. Tried to sell me on pictures-headshots $299. Acting classes that they offered. etc etc. All these services, so called "reputable" yet ZERO clients in the waiting room. Only people there were the grrrreat director, and ONE actor who worked with that director. They asked for $25 to put me in their database for a year.  No website. NO business cards. SHADY!

Company 2- Found them on craigslist. Actors Reps in Hollywood. Completely different experience. Their office is on Hollywood blvd, which would seem impressive to the new booty on the block. As I enter they have a few actors coming in and out of their office. Typical receptionist, and other office people walking around. SO FAR so good. As I sign in, I am handed a monologue to read. (I thought I was coming in for an extra- since when do they have lines!!!)

Anyways, they call me in an office where their are two gentlemen present. One goes over expectations while the other is observing. They have me read the monologue and ask me to call at exactly 10:25am the next day.

I call at 10:20 speak with the man that was observing my interview and he tells me I have been chosen as the 14 person out of 51 people that interviewed. He asked me if I had headshots, which I didn't. And asked if he would like me to refer him somewhere. He referred me to Mitchell Rose. Told me after I get the photos come back, we'll go over them and prepare my resume. I googled Mitchell and found nothing but positive feedback. When I called Mitch, VERY nice guy. He said he could fit me in that day or the next and it would be $244-which was too much money for me.

Back to craigslist to find a photographer. I found Michael Joseph. Great guy and he took some great pictures!

Now that I have my headshots I am ready to move on. I have another appointment with Actors Reps tomorrow.

As I am playing online I see some complaints about them. I'll take these complaints with a grain of salt as I everything so far seems legit. Wish me luck!

Also, been working with my make-up artist in the industy who have referred me to Central Casting, LA Casting, and Extra's Management. So tomorrow I'm off to NoHo again.

Wish me luck!

Any feedback, advice, etc. Would be great. My friend tells me I'm moving to fast. But TIME IS MONEY!!!! and I work hard.

Toodles.
