Proclaimed "The Godfather of Black Theater," Shelley Garrett is an accomplished playwright, director, and producer. Most noted for his 1989 stage play "Beauty Shop," which toured the United States for three consecutive years hitting more than 62 cities, sometimes three and four times, Garrett has steadily proven his longevity in the eyes of black theater. With other plays that include spin offs of the original Beauty Shop entitled "Beauty Shop – Part 2," "Beauty Shop – 10 Years Later," "Beauty Shop – Under New Management" and "Beauty Shop – The Original Stage Play," Garrett has had more feature film adaptations and spin-offs than any other stage play in history; black, white or otherwise
